How to prolong the service life of diesel engine turbocharger

Diesel generator professional news report: Modern diesel generators are increasingly using turbocharger technology, which makes the oil collector more powerful, the layout more reasonable without changing the volume, and greatly saves energy. However, in actual work, many drivers do not know much about the performance, structure, and principle of turbochargers, and the phenomenon of turbocharger damage in a short period of time is common, which not only causes great economic losses, but also affects the normal use of diesel engines. So, how to use and maintain the turbocharger correctly to extend the service life?
        1. Ensure reliable lubrication of the turbocharger
Use turbocharged diesel engine oil that meets the requirements according to the turbocharger manual (generally use CD grade advanced lubricating oil), and regularly check the quantity and quality of the oil, replace the deteriorated or dirty oil in time, clean or replace the oil filter, and ensure the high cleanliness of the oil.
        2. Ensure the high cleanliness of the diesel engine intake
The airtightness of the turbocharged diesel engine intake and exhaust pipes must be maintained, the air filter must be cleaned and maintained regularly, the tightening nuts or bolts must be checked for looseness, the hose clamp must be clamped, and the intake system must be checked for air leakage. If necessary, the sealing gasket must be replaced to prevent dust and sand from being sucked into the compressor. Otherwise, dirt can easily lead to air filter wall plugging, compressor passages and turbocharger blades being contaminated, resulting in a drop in boost pressure and even early wear of blades and diesel engine parts.
        3. "Priming oil" must be added before starting a new diesel engine or a newly replaced turbocharger
For a new diesel engine or a replaced turbocharger, before starting, the oil inlet pipe joint on the turbocharger must be removed and 50-60mL of engine oil must be added to prevent the turbocharger bearing from burning out due to lack of oil at the moment of starting.
        4. Before starting the diesel engine, crank the crankshaft for several revolutions to ensure lubrication. If possible, wait until the oil fills the oil filter and the entire lubrication system and the oil pressure stabilizes before starting. Otherwise, the turbocharger bearing may be damaged due to lack of lubrication during startup, because when the diesel engine is running without load and the turbocharger speed is very high, even a short few seconds of insufficient oil supply to the turbocharger bearing will cause bearing damage.
